General Information

R. Nowka

Welcome! I am looking forward to a great year! The purpose of this web page is to take much of the guesswork out of being in this class. I want to save you the effort and the time of trying to figure out what I expect.

    1. Looseleaf notebook paper (NO spiral)
    2. Three-ring binder (1.5 inch)
    3. Subject Dividers
    4. Pen/Pencil
    5. Highlighter
    6. Red Pen
    7. Zippered supply pouch to go inside the binder
    8. Pick one: Kleenex, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitzer

Listed below are the four primary rules. In the event that difficulties arise, we may have to add to the list, but I do not anticipate this will be necessary.

    1. Be Prompt

    2. Be Prepared

    3. Be Productive

    4. Be Polite

As my class is not located in the main building, students will rarely be allowed to leave for any reason. Bathroom business needs to be taken care of BEFORE you come to my room, as we do not have access to a student facility in this building. If you forget something in your locker, tough. If a situation arises in which I do allow you to leave, you will be expected to sign out of my room before leaving for any reason other than the ringing of the bell. Class books are to remain in my room at ALL times. If you need to take one with you, you may check one out.

Throughout the year, students will be expected to read and test on library books. Due dates are to be determined and will be announced shortly. For each book that a student tests on and makes a 100%, I will give them a punch on a punch card. When the student receives all 10 punches, they may choose a coupon outlining a specific reward. Bring a library book EVERY DAY.

All work is due by the date provided by the teacher at the beginning of the class period. Since all of us have moments of lapses in responsibility, you will receive a Temporary Insanity Pass (TIP) for each nine weeks (a total of four for the year). You may use your TIP on the assignments you choose as long as you meet the guidelines listed below. To use the pass, you will simply tell me the assignment, and I will record it on a 3 X 5 card, which designates the assignment and date used. Use of this pass will allow you to turn in the late work for full credit. All late work not turned in with a TIP will automatically be dropped twenty points. I will not accept late work after three days for on level students. I will not accept any late work without a TIP for honors students.  Guidelines for the use of a Temporary Insanity Pass are as follows:

    1. An assignment must be turned in within two school days.

    2. Passes cannot be used early or borrowed from other people; however, you

may save your passes for a later date.

    3. Passes may not be used for any quiz or test.

    4. I must be notified of the intention to use a TIP on the original due date.

In the event of an absence:

1. Check the “Absent Folders” on the wall

2. Ask a friend

3. Ask me

It is the responsibility of the student to obtain missed assignments through the means mentioned above. If a student fails to do so, a zero will be recored.

Misbehavior and/or failure to meet expectations will result in disciplinary action. Discipline will usually, but not necessarily always, be limited to one or more of the following, though not necessarily in the following order:

    1. A verbal warning

    2. Detainment after class

    3. Detention

    4. Contact with a parent/guardian

    5. Office referral

Keep it off and put away.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, plagiarism is “the practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.” I expect you to complete your own work. Partner work is given for ONLY specific assignments. If I do not specifically say that you may work with a partner, expect to complete your own work. Those who are caught cheating will be given a zero. This is a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY.

By attending my class, you are acknowledging that you understand my expectations and are agreeing to behave in a manner that is in accordance with my classroom expectations as well as those established by the Weatherford School District. I may be contacted through email at with any questions or concerns.

I am looking forward to a great year!
