About Mrs. Duerksen
My name is Kimberly Duerksen. This is my 25th year of teaching music at Weatherford Public Schools. I am originally from Altus, Oklahoma and graduated high school in 1988. I attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree as well as a Masters of Music. I am certified in Kodaly I and II and also hold Orff Certification. I am a member of Oklahoma Music Educator's, Oklahoma Choral Director's Association, and Western Oklahoma Choral Director's. I attend First Baptist Church in Weatherford where I am active in adult choir, mixed ensemble and sing in a trio, 3 for 1. I also enjoy helping with our youth program and going to Fall's Creek.
I live on a farm south of Weatherford about 23 miles. My husband Jack is a farmer, machinist and volunteer fireman for the Cloud Cheif community. I have two beautiful daughters. Addi, currently an 11th grader, at Weatherford High School and Lyndi is a 7th grader at Weatherford Middle School.
I come from a family of educator's. I grew up in my mom's 4th grade classroom and remember as a young child going to my dad's voice lessons, who also taught Choir. My mom taught 4th grade for 38 years and my dad is currently a vice-president for Western Oklahoma State College. Music has always been a part of my life. As an educator I believe that all children should be able to learn music and make it a part of their everyday lives. A composer once said, "Music happens when there are no more words to express how one feels." That is why I love and teach music.
I look forward to teaching your child the value of music and help them gain a better understanding and love of music.
